The Herald of Free Enterprise ferry capsized on the 6th March 1987 whilst on a voyage between Zebrugge in Belgium and Dover England. 193 people died in the tragedy which was caused by the crew not closing the bow doors correctly.
This catastophinc accident happend 30 years ago, last week.
Memorial services took place both in Zeebrugge and Dover to commemorate the lives of the crew and passengers that died.
I worked in a Southern Electricity showroom at the time, and I can clearly remember the pictures on all of the television sets that were for sale in the shop. People were looking in the windows at the screens that were showing the news that day.
