An article involving fake news caught my attention.
Wayne Gretzky is a retired ice hockey player and Canadian national coach. In a deplorable advertising attempt, someone used an image of a soldier’s funeral in a very inappropriate manner. The image of a coffin with the Canadian flag draped over it was copied and edited to create an advert. To draw attention to the ad, the headline was worded ‘Hockey Hero at Peace’. Wayne Gretzky is not really dead, and the image was of another person’s funeral! How despicable to do that!
The headline was used purely to catch people’s attention and in a country where Ice Hockey is very popular fake news has been created as click bait for the advert. Below is a link to the Tweet that I posted and a link to the journalist Patrick Cain’s article who initially investigated the advert.
A photo of a soldier’s #Funeral has been used in a hoax click bait advert. The ice hockey player Gretzky is not really dead. This is a prime example of #FakeNews investigated by @Cain https://t.co/J2XSILTjZY
